James E. Rodgers
Mr. James Rodgers is in his thirty-second year of teaching. He is a proud graduate of Fraser High School, Class of 1989, and received a Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Music Education and Clarinet Performance from Wayne State University in 1994, and a Master’s Degree in Music Education from Wayne State University in 2003.
Since 2000, Mr. Rodgers has served as the director of the Varsity, Concert, Symphony, Jazz, and Marching Bands for Fraser High School. He is also the Instrumental Music Department Head for Fraser Public Schools.
Prior to his appointment at Fraser High School, Mr. Rodgers began his career teaching music for three years in the Oak Park School District from 1994-1997, and then became the Director of Bands at East Detroit High School from 1997-2000.
Mr. Rodgers and his wife, Diana, are blessed with three wonderful children: Colin, Jacob, and Lylah, all of which participated in the band and choral programs at Fraser H.S. Colin is a FHS graduate (Class of 2019) and a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing and Sales, and was in the CMU marching band on the bass and snare drum line. He currently works for Enterprise Mobility in the truck rental and sales division. Jacob is also a FHS graduate (Class of 2020) and a graduate of Michigan State University (Class of 2024) with a Bachelor of Arts in Physics Education Research and a minor in Coding. He is currently attending and teaching in the physics department at Oregon State University (Go Beavers!), and graduating with a Master's Degree in Physics Education Research in June 2026. Lylah is also a graduate of FHS (Class of 2025), having been a member of the FHS marching band on the drum line, the Symphony band, the Fraser Singers, the Equestrian team, and the Varsity Gymnastics team. She is currently attending Michigan State University majoring in Large Animal Sciences.
As always, Mr. Rodgers is looking forward to continuing the Tradition of Excellence in Music at Fraser High School.
